Sourdough Crumpets fresh from the griddle!

Back in June I wrote about waking up early and making crumpets for breakfast. In case you missed it, these Sourdough Crumpets are the fastest and easiest way to enjoy sourdough bread. With a little experience – and 1 cup sourdough starter – crumpets take 20 – 30 minutes to make on your cook-top from start to finish.

I am writing again to ask you to just give Sourdough Crumpets a chance.

With your very own Crumpet Toolkit you can make the most delicious Sourdough Crumpets of your life whenever you like. Once you have all of the elements at hand, you may be surprised how often you make them.

Why Sourdough Crumpets? They are the perfect thing to make if you have sourdough starter skulking in the back of your refrigerator and rarely use it, or if always envied your friends their sourdough starter but honestly had no idea what you would do with it. Ditto if kneading makes you nervous, you can’t find time for focaccia, or you have generalized BBG (Bread Baking Phobia).

I cannot overstate either their ease of preparation or potential contribution to your wellbeing and happiness. We all know the importance of sitting together at the kitchen table, taking the time to enjoy a few minutes at breakfast at the start of the day. Based on my own experience, these crumpets ensure that your spouse will join you for breakfast.

Of course they are good any time of day – whether you want an open faced sandwich, a tasty foundation for your gravlax and guacamole, or best-ever toasted tuna melt.

Whether or not you are accompanied at the breakfast table, Sourdough Crumpets make every meal special.

Are sourdough crumpets the foundation of marriage, the secret to a long term happiness? Maybe not, but they sure are easy and delicious.

Even the ingredients are easy.

As for the sourdough starter – if you don’t have any, you likely know someone who will spot you a few cups to get started. Sourdough keepers love to proselytize, to spread the microbial wealth, so to speak. The other 4 ingredients are household staples: 1 tsp sugar, a scant 1/2 tsp each of salt and baking soda, and 2 Tbs of all purpose flour.

It is also worth a mention that Sourdough Crumpets are good for your gut.

I recently assembled a Crumpet Toolkit as a wedding gift for the daughter of friends, filling a gift bag with a small non-stick griddle at our local Stock (discount store), 4 round biscuit cutters and small containers with the required ingredients, adding the recipe (click here to download the recipe.)

I wish I could gift one to everyone. As a next best solution, I am posting the recipe in this downloadable format to make it easier to use at home. If you give it a try, I would love to hear how it goes. (You can post photos in the comments.)

Or give a Crumpet Toolkit to someone you love – who knows, they may make sourdough crumpets to share with you!

If everyone had their very own Crumpet Toolkit, imagine how much better a world this could be.
