This recipe started out as a way to solve the problem of how to make caramel without butter, ie to make parve or vegan caramel for Vegan Chocolate Matzah Bark. It ended up tasting too good to be just a means to an end.

No tangerines were harmed in making of this dish. Tangerine Fishballs makes an excellent, easy Seder alternative to the ubiquitous gefilte-fish starter (appetizer).
Leaving Washington DC
Washington DC can be a cold and indifferent place ...if you felt claustrophobic during COVID-19 lock-downs imagine how it would feel if that was all you had, all the time, with nothing to look forward to, adding in the necessity of drugging your son to help him get through the reality of his daily life and his very real feelings of being in his words 'left behind.'
Meditations on Moving House and Reaching Your Destination
Our new back yard; the furniture we brought from the US to Israel (the cat came separately). We have arrived at our destination. Earlier this year I wrote about our … Continue reading Meditations on Moving House, Procrastination and Planning for Success
Japanese (Rationing) Fruit Cake
This is my favorite fruitcake, from a recipe handed down by my Bubbe Leah (Levy) Weisenfeld (z”l). This cake was a staple in our house when I was growing up. It was many years before I learned that there is nothing Japanese about the cake at all - the name came from the fact that the … Continue reading Japanese (Rationing) Fruit Cake
Chocolate Rolls
These beautiful chocolate rolls taste as good - or better - as traditional sweet rolls with healthier substitutions consistent with a Microbiome Diet. After all, it does not matter how healthy something is if no one wants to eat it.
